The liquid nitrogen supply tank and liquid dewar are both cylindrical steel containers with valves at the top and wheels at the bottom, designed for supplying liquid nitrogen to other containers. They may look similar, but their functions differ.
While the liquid dewar can store liquid nitrogen and output nitrogen gas via a vaporizer, the liquid nitrogen supply tank only stores and transfers liquid nitrogen. It is a liquid nitrogen supply vessel, not for nitrogen gas transfer. Its primary purpose is to serve as a liquid nitrogen source for applications like biological sample storage.
The liquid nitrogen supply tank is designed with safety in mind, especially for laboratory and sample storage use. It operates at a pressure of 0.1MPa or less and includes a dual safety valve to prevent overpressure. Unlike liquid dewars, it doesn’t require regular third-party inspections, as it doesn’t contain any vaporizing components.
Although both containers may appear similar with their wheels and valves and both store liquid nitrogen, the key difference lies in pressure and function: liquid nitrogen supply tanks are low-pressure and only transfer liquid nitrogen, while liquid dewars are used for medium to high-pressure applications and can also transfer nitrogen gas.
